1. First of all, Can you briefly tell us about yourself?
I was born in Gaziantep in 1939. I completed my primary and secondary education at Talas American Secondary School and Tarsus American College. Subsequently, I graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Middle East Technical University. Of course, our generation was among the first graduates. Between 1963-1965, I worked at Etibank (current name TEDAŞ) Relay counter center. After doing freelance engineering for a while, I started to work as an instrument maintenance chief at ATAŞ Refinery in 1972. Following this duty, I worked as a company manager at Ensim for a while. Since 1976 Enelsan Industrial Electronics Industry Inc. I am chairman of the board.
2. Can we get to know Enelsan? What products and services do you offer to your customers?
Enelsan is a company that has been in business since 1976. We have not only trade but also production and system integration activities. We have been in our own factory in Dilovası Organized Industrial Zone for 24 years. We provide service in the field of measuring many properties of fluids such as pressure, temperature, flow. I call it “understanding the language of liquid”. Yes, we have brought the devices that we produce within Enelsan to a level that can understand the language of many types of liquids on their own. Over the years, we have had business or project-based partnerships with many national and international valuable companies. Afterwards, we decided to use our know-how, which we nurtured through these partnerships, in domestic production, and we diversified our activities accordingly. We are currently Turkey's first and only electromagnetic flowmeter manufacturer. This title also applies to our temperature and pressure transmitters. We do not only manufacture but also calibrate these products. Our calibration service is at a level that can compete with our production service in terms of quality. Turkey's first and only TÜRKAK Accreditation Certificated flowmeter calibration laboratory in the private sector provides services within the body of Enelsan. You can find more detailed information about our company and services at www.enelsan.com.
3. Enelsan is currently the only pressure transmitter manufacturer in Turkey. The first company to manufacture the differential pressure transmitter was Enelsan. Can you tell us about the services you have given us at this point?
As their name suggests, our pressure and differential pressure transmitters are used to measure the relative and absolute pressure of liquids and gases. In sectors such as food and medicine, these measurements are of vital importance, as well as in other branches of chemistry and in many industrial areas such as water distribution networks. If we talk about the technical aspect, the transmitters we produce as Enelsan are ceramic sensors placed in a steel body or piezoresistive measuring cell on a stainless-steel body and ink from the electronic card. The sensors are engineered to ensure safety in case of temperature changes and overload. They are very functional to use and easy to assemble. Transmitters are not affected by electromagnetic noise thanks to the EMC shielding components they contain. Here, I would like to place particular focus on for electromagnetic flowmeters, of which we are the only domestic manufacturer. These products are devices that work according to Faraday's law of induction. They allow us to obtain the amount of flow in the cross section to be measured. The usage areas are very wide. It has straight and reverse reading capabilities and self-examination functions. English and Turkish display and programming options are available. Enelsan continues its R&D studies on various models. We are trying to raise the bar of quality and technology as much as possible, because the subject of flowmeters is an important one. Flow measurement is one of the key points of the system within the scope of waste water counting/control and treatment technologies, which have a very important place in order to preserve the common heritage of both our country and the world as much as possible. We can assign the same key role to our flowmeters and transmitters for drinking water distribution networks. Because you are healthy to the extent that you can measure and control your drinking water. Another service I would like to mention regarding our transmitters and flowmeters is the leak and usage detection service. You would appreciate that this service is also extremely beneficial for our national economy.

4. Could you inform us about the companies you represent?
Enelsan was the first in Turkey to represent and sell the leading companies in the sector in Europe. Of course, we had important experiences in this process. We tried to transform the advantages of working with global scale companies into added value for our country. In this context, it is an important indicator that we brought the subject of measurement instruments to Turkey first. Currently, Enelsan is the authorized representative of Bopp & Reuther for flow computers, level/density meters, deaerator and filter equipment used in skid systems.
5. Which sectors do you mainly serve?
If I state that we provide services to most of the companies in any organized industrial zone, I think it will create an idea for the sectoral spectrum. We do a job that is needed in many sectors from the water and wastewater industry to the food and beverage industry, from the oil industry to the chemical industry. Our solutions, especially in the fields of agriculture and energy, are undeniably important. We tend to add new items to the above list every day, as the importance of the technology in question is being better understood day by day.
6. Could you inform us about your R&D studies? If possible, could you share some of your references with us?
I said that Turkey's first and only TÜRKAK accredited flowmeter calibration laboratory belonging to the private sector is within Enelsan. Apart from the laboratory, there is a pool with a water capacity of 50 tons. From here, we can calibrate with uncertainty values ranging from 0.18% to 0.55% up to the upper limits of 700 m3/h by means of a frequency-controlled pump at various flow rates and pressures and 3 reference flowmeters in different diameters. Weighing system and reference flowmeter system are the methods we use when performing the calibration process. I can say that we have various plans to increase service diversity and quality in the medium and long term. We have many references from private or public enterprises that are specialized in their fields and have signed important projects. Among these, we can count Petkim, Alarko, Eczacıbaşı (Vitra) and Akfen. These companies are really advanced in terms of product and service quality, and they are very selective when evaluating the companies, they will do business with. As such, your quality standards must be high enough to meet the requirement. For this reason, we have come to a remarkable point with our after-sales support as well as the quality of our products. Finally, there is a big project that we have embarked on with Eti Maden. When this project is completed, the number of Enelsan production flowmeters in Eti Maden will probably approach 240.
7. If we talk about your market share; Could you inform us about your market share, turnover and production figures? How was the first half of 2015 for your company? What do you expect from the second half of the year?
As a well-established and experienced company in the sector, Enelsan has made some improvements in its production and marketing strategy as required by the conditions of the day. In this context, we can talk about a kind of fallow process that we completed by prioritizing R&D rather than marketing. Despite our 39 years of existence, our electromagnetic flowmeter, which we produce under our Enelsan brand, is still very young. For this reason, we have a preliminary goal of making our domestic product accepted in the market rather than being busy with market share. We want to walk with more confident steps by settling a little more in the sector we already exist in. Talking about numbers will not be a very reliable and valid way to talk about what we can do at this stage. Because we are talking about a climbing graph. We are very satisfied with the first stage table. I can say that the first half of 2015 (especially the second quarter) was more satisfying than we expected. The productive first half further strengthened our positive expectations for the second half.
8. What are your projects that you plan to implement in the short and long term?
The quality of our laboratory is reflected in our calibration quality, and naturally in the measurement reliability of our products. While our R&D studies continue on the flowmeters and transmitters we manufacture, we continue our efforts to make our laboratory capable of calibrating large-scale products with a diameter of 1200 mm and 1500 mm, on the other. I always say that if I had had my current opportunities and experience long ago, everything could have been much different in terms of investing in the future. As a matter of fact, our most important project here is that we decided to switch to domestic projects. The rest is just technical details.

9. Last thing you want to add…
As it is known, our country started its branding journey in 2014 with the slogan “Turkey: Discover the Potential”. We see this as a very positive step and support it. As a company, we have been working with this philosophy for years, even though it is not part of such an all-out movement. Some of our qualifications in the field in which we operate provide Enelsan with the honor of being the only company in the Turkish industry, not "being one of the rare companies in the Turkish industry". Here, I am talking about being the first and only domestic manufacturer of products such as electromagnetic flowmeters, temperature-pressure transmitters. Look, this is very important, it's like cutting your own belly. Maybe when the word “flowmeter” is mentioned, a concept does not come to mind, but today we are talking about a service that offers a wide range of incredibly practical solutions, from infrastructure services, which is seen as a criterion of contemporary civilization, to the food sector, which is the means by which we can provide healthy food products to our children. It's almost indispensable. It is even more indispensable that this indispensable thing is local. Both in terms of employment opportunities provided to our people and in terms of the added value offered on behalf of our country. The experience to be gained here will serve as a locomotive over time and set an example for initiatives in fields that require greater expertise.
During my time in Germany, I closely saw and examined the system and discipline of European companies. Indeed, it was an enormous infrastructure, an established order, that deserved the concern of our people that "we cannot cope with them". However, considering that this chain of anxiety and fear must be broken at some point, we decided to take an immediate action for domestic production. See, what I'm talking about here is not a simple assembly job or proprietary subcontracting; It is the production, continuous development and marketing of devices consisting of civil servants, mechanical and electronic components by making extremely sensitive measurements and marketing them in an environment where there are serious competitors. It looks like a very critical painting, doesn't it? So, let me tell you where we came from; As Enelsan, in the third year of our start of production of flowmeters, we have reached a level where we can compete with the most experienced and well-known brands of the industry worldwide. We walk and run in the same lane as the companies that set the standards of this business, so to speak. And while we are running this race, we act with hope and courage, not with hesitations or the pre-acceptance of "we can't", which is our chronic problem. Of course, there are some difficulties, but we believe that these problems can be overcome to the extent that we can explain ourselves and be understood by both our nation and the relevant authorities.
Thank you and I wish you success in your publishing life.
